Phonological processing in children with speech disorders

چکیده
This study investigates the output phonological processing of children with phonological disorder and delay and asks whether different processing deficits underlie different speech disorders. The study compares the speech errors of two groups of children on four tasks: naming, repetition of sentence, repetition of non-words and words. These tasks arguably tap different levels of output processing. Result indicates a significantly higher percentage of phonemic errans for the phonological disorder group than the delay group. Both groups performed similarly across the four tasks. The implications for the levels of impairment in the two groups are discussed in terms of Hewlett's (1990) model of phonological processing and future therapeutic intervention is considered.

Objective: speech sound disorders are among the most common speech disorders in children. Non-speech oral motor exercises have long been used as a facilitative activity throughout therapy sessions for a wide variety of speech disorders by speech-language pathologists. But there are few empirical controlled data to evaluate its effectiveness. This study aimed at comparing the effects of therapeu...

متن کاملThe Effects of Emotional Content on Phonological Processing in Children Who Stutter
Objectives: Stuttering and phonological processing are mutually related. Emotion is an effective factor in fluency and language processing; however, its underlying neural mechanism remains unclear. Event-Related Potential (ERP) is a non-invasive highly-beneficial method with high time resolution for language processing. The present study aimed to explore phonological processing in emotional wor...
